Firethorn Golf Club
Yardage: 4,762 – 7,025 Yards
Firethorn Golf Club, located in Lincoln is the only Pete Dye designed golf course in the state. Pete Dye is famous for designs such as “TPC Sawgrass,” and “TPC Stadium Course.”
A key feature of Pete Dye designed golf courses is visual intimidating shots. Firethorn does not lack in this category. The course features many demanding tee-shots that require precise placement to have scoring opportunities. The dreaded “Thorn” tees present all the golfer wants on a windy day. Although there are other more manageable options in the tee box department.
The signature hole of the course is the par-3 17th hole. Playing nearly 200 yards from the back tee and going all over water, there is no room for error. A well hit tee-shot will give you some satisfaction no matter what has happened on the previous 16 holes.
Firethorn Golf Club hosted the 2016 Nebraska State Match Play which was won by Rylee Reinertson. The course held its own in stroke play qualifying with only a few golfers posting red numbers. The course also hosted the 1996 United States Women’s Amateur won by Kelley Kuehne.
