Junior Golf in Nebraska is ever growing. The Nebraska Section of the PGA along with the Nebraska Golf Association have done a great job promoting and growing the footprint of Junior Golf.

Nebraska Junior Golf Tour (click here)

The Nebraska Golf Association and the Nebraska PGA joined forces in 2009 to bring young golfers the state’s premier junior golf organization – the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour (NJGT) presented by Farmers Mutual of Nebraska. With the addition of TEAM GOLF, it serves as a fun entry into tournament play. There are nearly 80 events for kids to get involved with golf through the junior tour. Farmers Mutual Insurance of Nebraska Regular Tournaments feature the following age divisions for each gender: 7-8; 9-11; 12-13; 14-15 and 16+. Prize and point recognition will be given to the top finishers in each category. Male golfers in the 7-8 & 9-11 age categories and females in the 7-8; 9-11 and 12-13 age categories play nine-holes. All other age divisions play 18-holes. The fee for regular tour events is $20 (9-holers) and $30 (18-holers).

In addition to the regular tour events we’ll offer premier events including the GolfTEC Premier Series featuring 4 major championships, the Five Points Bank of Grand Island Central Nebraska Junior Am & the NGCSA Capital City Championship which are ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard. The GolfTEC of Omaha Premier competitions are reserved for golfers in the 18-hole classification and will be higher level tournaments. Golf course set-up (yardage) will differ for the 12-13 year old boys. Those 14 & older will play the same gender tees. Prizes and double points, however, will be awarded based on performance within age divisions. Premier events are run similar to a championship event and are priced at $40.

Our season ending championship is called the NJGT TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP. The Tour Championship for the 18-hole division will be hosted by Dakota Dunes Country Club for the 2017 season. The 9-hole division will be held at The Field Club of Omaha. Invitations will be extended to golfers in every age and gender division based on their position in their respective NJGT point standings published July 20th. An awards ceremony will follow the tournament where we’ll honor the top finishers and our NJGT Payer of the Year presented by Golf USA recipients in each age and gender category. A great way to cap the season.

FORE! (offering junior golfers rounds of golf for just $4) more info

This unique NGA program offers junior golfers the opportunity to play numerous golf courses statewide for just $4. As an extension of junior golf programs that first introduce the game, FORE! is an NGA initiative that creates affodability and accesability for junior golfers to play the game more frequently. In addition to highlighting participating golf courses, the FORE! web site will feature junior rate policies at non-participating courses that already have their own access programs in place.

For the last 16 years the NGA has offered a series of Rules of Golf seminars for high school golf teams. Regional sessions are staged throughout the state in both March and August. The seminars highlight those rules situations that golfers most likely encounter during stroke play competitions. There’s no cost to attend and attendees receive a USGA Rules of Golf booklet. Although focused on high school golf, all junior golfers are welcome. Link here for details on the 2017 educational schedule.

The NGA annually recognizes a Junior Golfer of the Year and a Girls Junior Golfer of the Year. In addition, the top 5 boys and girls are named to a NGA Junior All-Star Team. These recognitions are determined by the NGA’s junior point standings for both boys and girls. These standings are also used to determine various select teams and NGA junior championship registration priority. To access information on the NGA Junior Point System link here.
